Walk
along a footpath high up in the Derbyshire Peak
District at the right time of year and you find a
sea of purple stretching out into the distance to
the blue sky on the horizon. Earlier in the summer
the low ground in the dales and valleys will put on
a superb display of natural colour with daffodils,
bluebells, wild orchids, dandelions, buttercups, cow
parsley and many other species. In August that the
High Peak comes into its own and takes the limelight
with a wonderful show of colour. A blaze of purple
is an intrinsic part of the idyllic summer scene
that greets you on the moors around north
Derbyshire. Unfortunately once the high ground also
turns purple it is a sure sign that summer is coming
to an end.
