These days Sherwood Forest is the home of some grand stately homes of Rufford Abbey, Newstead Abbey and several others. Nottinghamshire is considered to be one of the most cycle friendly cities in the UK with many well defined cycle lanes and trails away from the busy roads. There are many popular walks and cycle routes along the River Trent and around Sherwood Forest. Wollaton Hall (picture) is a popular park that has a many events during the year as well as a well stocked museum of natural history. Nottingham Castle near the centre of Nottingham (home of the Robin Hoods arch enemy ? the Sheriff of Nottingham) is also well worth a visit. Derbyshire has many well known touring destinations. The Amber Valley located in the southern part of Derbyshire and the Peak District towards the north. In the Peak District amongst the places well worth a visit are Bakewell, Buxton, Ashbourne and many superb villages. There are many off road cycle trails all over the Derbyshire Peak District with great views and walks for all levels - whether across the rugged moorlands or through the dales scattered all over the North Derbyshire landscape (Cave Dale in picture) The Erewash Valley Trail is a 30+ mile trail along the Erewash Canal and many footpaths in the area. Idea for walks and cycling.
