CARAVAN SECURITY ADVICE

Caravan Security Advice For Owners and Site Managers

As the season draws to a close, Market Harborough Neighbourhood Watch would like to offer some basic security advice to owners and site managers to keep your caravan safe over the winter months.

Make it difficult for the would-be criminal

  • Secure all windows and doors with good quality locks
  • If out for the evening, draw the curtains and leave lights and a radio on.
  • Make use of time switches
  • Postcode all your property with an ultra violet marking pen
  • If you are returning home before the end of the holiday season, take your valuables home with you
  • Don’t leave valuables in your car where they can be seen – lock them away in the boot
  • Fit a caravan alarm
  • Fit a caravan safe if necessary
  • At the end of the season – REMOVE ALL VALUABLES

Security marking pens are available free of charge from all local Police Stations, or by contacting 0116 248 3871

In the winter

  • LEAVE CURTAINS DRAWN BACK
  • LEAVE CUPBOARDS AND DRAWERS OPEN
  • DISPLAY A ‘VALUABLES REMOVED’ NOTICE IN THE WINDOW -available from Market Harborough Neighbourhood Watch.

Make your site more secure

By being a good neighbour and keeping an eye out for anything suspicious, you can help make your site more secure.

Things which should be reported to the Park Operator or the Police

  • Strangers peering through caravan windows, loitering suspiciously around unoccupied caravans
  • Strangers hanging around play areas and approaching children
  • Strangers trying car doors
  • Anything that you believe to be suspicious – no matter how trivial it may seem
  • More advice

If you are a member of a Caravan Club, your touring caravan will automatically be logged on the club’s security register. This enables the club to liase with the Police and dealers rapidly should a theft occur.

It also helps authenticate ownership if your caravan is stolen then recovered

The Club keeps a register of all caravans reported stolen, even those of non-members.

This register is widely used by Police throughout the UK You can write to the Caravan Club at:
